Embracing a healthy, fit lifestyle doesn’t have to be all or nothing. The first thing you need is a habit. It can be a teeny, tiny habit–the important thing is that it becomes automatic. You want it to be something that you never think, “Should I or shouldn’t I?” It should be like brushing your teeth.
Maybe you’ll start with drinking one glass of water immediately upon waking up. Maybe set your alarm three minutes earlier and do five crunches. Or take a walk around the block after dinner.
Once you have a solid habit in place, you can add to it. Walk a little longer, crunch more times, drink more water. But for now, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to choose one small habit that you will do, without fail, every single day for six weeks. (You should keep going, of course, but that’s about how long it takes for a habit to stick.)
By New Year’s, you’ll be half way through the habit formation process. That means that when people will be generally giving up, you’ll be on your way to a lifelong healthy habit.
What are you going to do?
